From Hollywood blockbusters to biblical prophecy, apocalyptic themes seem to be everywhere in our culture. Whether it’s concerns about climate change, nuclear war, or divine judgment, many people find themselves contemplating the end of the world—or at least the end of the world as we know it.
The word “apocalypse” itself comes from the Greek meaning “revelation” or “unveiling,” yet for many today it conjures images of destruction and doom. Some Christians eagerly anticipate Christ’s return and final judgment, while others worry that dwelling on end-times scenarios can be unfounded or even irresponsible. Meanwhile, popular culture continues to feed our fascination with apocalyptic narratives, from zombie films to climate fiction. But what do Catholics actually believe about the end times?
