The pope acknowledged–as he has often lately–that Catholics could be better stewards of the environment, according to the Times of India. He inserted a "but," however, arguing that "a materialistic world" that denies God is the greater danger to the planet. The pope is right on both counts, of course, and the two concerns are connected. But it would be nice if B16 could make one of these statements without the constant "but" that usually ends up making him look like a scold. We know he's capable of it.
As for me, this will be the last post on The Examined Life until September. I'm off to try to enjoy creation a bit more myself. First stop: Glacier National Park in Montana–where the last glacier is due to melt in 2030, thanks to global warming.
