Check out one of today's news stories posted on usc.org and you'll see why. The story is about how the world's women religious are recommitting themselves to fighting human trafficking, especially the trafficking of women and girls for sexual purposes. They go another step and call on their male counterparts to do the same.
This kind of forward-looking, signs-of-the-times ministry is why we need women relgious, and why I think it's an insult that the Vatican has initiated a "doctrinal assessment" of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious. (You can read my July column on that topic here, as well as my previous post on this topic.)
Sometimes I wish our ordained leadership would turn the reins over to the women religious for a while.
