Andrew Chesnut is a professor of religious studies and holds the Bishop Walter F. Sullivan Chair in Catholic Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is the leading expert on the new religious movement of Santa Muerte and his seminal book, Devoted to Death: Santa Muerte, the Skeleton Saint, has been translated into six languages.
