Registrations are currently being accepted for the first joint pilgrimage to the Holy Land organized by U.S. Catholic magazine and Catholic Theological Union (CTU).
Our January 17-27, 2015 tour will be led by CTU’s noted scripture scholar and Jerusalem expert Franciscan Father Leslie J. Hoppe. U.S. Catholic’s popular Testaments columnist Alice Camille will also be along and will lead reflections, prayers, and discussions during the tour.
Father Hoppe has led study-tours, pilgrimages, and retreats to the Holy Land since 1979. Here he gives a quick preview of this tour:
Students of the Bible are able to study the Bible “in context,” pilgrims are thrilled about visiting the holy places, and retreatants enjoy the opportunity to spend time in prayer at places like Bethlehem, the Holy Sepulchre, and the Mount of Beatitudes.
Our tour will include visits to sites in Galilee and Jerusalem associated with the life of Jesus. We will also have the opportunity to visit significant historical, archaeological, and religious sites associated with ancient Israel, early Judaism, early Christianity and Islam. Among these are the Western Wall, the Haram es-Sharif, the Church of the Nativity, Capernaum, Nazareth, and Mount Tabor. We plan to have some opportunity to interact with local folk—in particular with members of the local Catholic community.
Finally, Israel and Palestine are places of great natural beauty, unique geographical phenomena with a range of climatic conditions. We hope we will be able to experience this as we travel through the land.
Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity. Join us on this extraordinary journey of faith and hope. And please consider organizing a group from your own parish, Bible study, or circle of friends to come with you.
