Ann ever heard of Ailinsky
By Lisa (not verified) on Wednesday, March 24, 2010I have noticed your comments in reply to mine all have the same underlying theme to theme. Considering your talking points of: How can I call myself a Catholic by denying healthcare to the poor, I should be proud of my government for helping the poor, I am an elitist Catholic, and on and on. I must not forget how I am called a republican on a Catholic Blog yet I have never said I was Republican, democrat, or independant! Sounds as though the only way you rebuke my opinion is by trying to paint me as a callous, cynical, selfish person rather than explaining what is wrong with some of the facts or statements I have made.
Please point out how Social Justice applies to the government running everything for I have noticed that charitable organization such as CRS, make better use of accounting and distributing aid to those in need than Government Beaurcrats.
You know CHA is hardly known for having such charitable hospitals.
You make assumptions of how i have been unconcerned for the poor, without knowing who I am or what I actually contribute!
And worst of all making it seem like these nuns are right to defy their bishops using the sex abuse SOME unholy priests did; and that I don't care for the victims! how dare you?!
you put your trust in the most pro-abortion politicians and think the bishops and right to life groups are making things up for something to gain! the only thing they want to gain is that the unborn child is not aborted!
Lisa, First of all, I never
By Ann (not verified) on Sunday, April 18, 2010Lisa,
First of all, I never said what you were an R,D or and I.
Secondly, as to whether you were a callous, cynical, or selfish person that is between you and your conscience.
Thirdly, having charities manage taxpayer money for healthcare for 32 million people would be agreeable if it weren't that somebody would have to manage the charities. There would need to be oversight on these charities so why spend additional money on a middleman.
Fourthly, seeing recent events with the whole sexual abuse scandal in Germany, Ireland, Wisconsin...I don't think the bishops or the Vatican have the moral high ground or the credibility right now to address this issue. Right now, whether it is right or wrong, the church does not have the credibility of addressing the concerns of the flock. They are seen to be protecting the very people who are committing crimes against innocent victims. They need to effectively address this before people can take them seriously on other issues.
You GO Girl

You sound like you're a good woman. I pick you for my team any day over the likes of Keehan. I do not like her, but I am instructed to love her and pray for her. It is not easy for me to obey, yet Jesus did not caveat his teaching with "if you want to." God Bless you.
The Christian Church Community Is Closer To Communistic...
By KDaly (not verified) on Wednesday, April 21, 2010...view as the ideal of what constitutes a christian society that loves God and neighbor. Living the Good News of Jesus means to Care for the Poor, Oppressed, Marginalized; Welcome the Stranger, Alien, Other; Visit the Sick, Infirm, Prisoner; Clothe and Give Shelter to the Naked, Homeless, Abandoned; To Advocate for Love and Peace; To Share Goods in Common; To Be A Prophetic Voice For the Unloved, Lost, Wounded; To Love and Seek Reconcile with Our Enemies; To Give God Thanks Always ...
Unchecked Capitalism, Wanton Consumerism and Military-Industrial complex are the antithesis of the Good News and are further from a REAL way of faith, church and discipleship than advocating for such things as universal health care. If that constitutes socialism well, ANEN to that!
We're spending $1BILLION/Day alone running 2 wars -- WHERE ARE THE PROPHETIC VOICES TO END THIS MADNESS?
Amen too!

The Church categorically denounces Socialism
By Anonymous (not verified) on Wednesday, April 21, 2010The goal of state socialism is for the state to replace God. The Church denounces socialism and always has.
Here is a good summary, fyi

You've got to be kidding. Let me guess, you think Obama wasn't really born in the United States and is a closet Muslim to boot.
As a personal favor to yourself: Don't believe ridiculous items like that from such a quality "news" source as YouTube. Stop living life in fear. Here's a real newsflash for you: EVEN IF HE WANTED TO, he still couldn't turn America into a socialistic country because CONGRESS writes the laws, not the President. Moreover, even if by some miracle that was written by Congress and not-vetoed by Obama (which would never happen out of the principle of self-interest because the members of Congress wouldn't get re-elected), it wouldn't matter because WE THE PEOPLE elect officials to represent us. And since we don't want to be a socialist country, we'd just reverse all of the laws that were made turning us socialistic. In any event, it's not going to happen, so don't let it worry you.
And not that it matters, but all of this is coming from someone who is a registered Republican.
Peace!
You are right!

Legal Abortion SAVES Lives
By Reality Check (not verified) on Monday, March 22, 2010I know, that sounds like an oxymoron, but it is true.
Put aside your feelings for a second regardless if you are pro-choice or pro-life (actually those terms are misleading as virtually EVERYONE is pro-life, the terms pro-abortion and anti-abortion are more apropos). Brazil has roughly 1/2 the population of the United States. Brazil also has a much higher percentage of Catholics than the US does (around 75% vs 25%). In Brazil abortion is STRICTLY illegal (except in cases of serious health concerns to the mother or rape).
In the US abortion is legal. Yet the number of women that die from abortions in Brazil is substantially higher than the number of women that die in the US (despite the population delta). Why is that? It is because the laws don't stop people from doing things. They only create unnecessary hazzards in many cases.
If they made abortion illegal in the United States, the death rate of mothers seeking "now illegal" abortions would rise quickly. Girls in the Bible Belt would be off in the cornfields with hangers or plunging themselves down sets of stairs.
So if people want to try to make abortion illegal, all you are doing is killing women in the process whether you like it or not. If you want to speak your mind and voice your opinion that abortion is wrong in your view, then by all means go for it as that is a much better alternative than living in a delusional world thinking that making things illegal prevents people from doing them.
