In defense of social justice

Friday, March 12, 2010
I laughed when I heard that Glenn Beck said that Christians should leave their churches if they talk of "social justice." I knew that Beck was simply ridiculous, but this just put the nail in the coffin in confirming how irrelevant he is to any real, productive conversation. In fact, this statement is so silly that I couldn't even think about how to blog about it.

Minorities on the way to becoming majority

Friday, March 12, 2010
The worst nightmare of racists and nativists is that nonwhites will "outbreed" the “the real Americans,” meaning whites. Actually that’s happening already, and the cross-over date when the minorities of today – black, Asian, Hispanic -- will be the majority and the whites the minority is no further off than the middle of the 21st century.

Abortion facts in health care reform

Thursday, March 11, 2010
Should health care reform pass, it seems, from what some are saying, that pregnant women across the country will be running out to get abortions. It will be as if abortion became legal all over again!

White House meeting on immigration reform

Friday, March 5, 2010
The Chicago Tribune reports that there was a meeting in the White House last Monday on pushing ahead on immigration reform. Health care reform now or never?

Thursday, February 25, 2010
Today's bipartisan meeting on health care reform at the White House had Americans wondering if it was all a show or if the (small d) democratic process of debate and give-and-take is still possible.

After Austin

Sunday, February 21, 2010
Joseph Stack, the Austin, Texas suicide plane-bomber, another example of our homegrown terrorism problem, left a suicide note that was an odd admixture of left and right wing resentment, its most glaring characteristic a seething anger toward government and that most obviously directed toward the Internal Revenue Service.

AgJobs: An essential part of immigration reform

Friday, February 19, 2010
Most people when they hear proposals for immigration reform think about doing something about the 11 million “illegals” in this country. Solutions run from sending them back along with their U.S.-born kids to extending amnesty or “a pathway to citizenships” to the hard-working families.

Getting something done in Washington and the church

Tuesday, February 16, 2010
As Bryan points out in a blog  post that has gotten a ton of comments already, my post about seeking cooperation and support between pro-life and pro-human dignity camps only has gotten a couple of comments. This seems to say to me that this is really just about politics and not the issues.
